October 11-12, 2008
24 Hours of Moab
Moab, Utah

By Terri Wahlberg:

As I headed out on Lap 1 I began to feel ill but thought it was just nerves. I also noticed I did not feel like myself riding. I honestly was not going very fast. Towards the end of Lap 1 I began to get sick and knew this was not going to be my race. As I came through the pits I went right by my husband and gave him the look. He knew something was not right by the look and my lap time. The second lap did not prove to be much better. I continued to get sick and then had a crash. I ended up landing on my knee and think I messed my derailer up. The bike kept shift out of gear until about 2 miles before the finish when it just locked up. Instead of stopping to look I just cranked down and broke my chain. Dumb move!!!! Now I had to walk the 2 miles.

By the time I made it back to the pit my husband and I discussed my situation. I knew things were not going to get any better with my stomach and for some reason it was not my day at all. I unfortunatly had to make the call to call it a day. This was a very hard decision for me and one I do not like to make or do.

24 Hours of 9 Mile
Wausua, Wisconsin

By Terri Wahlberg:

I can’t believe that Nationals have come and gone. It has been such a whirlwind preparing and competing in the National 24 hour race that was held at Wausau, Wisconsin. Our trip began very early for my husband and me. We had to leave Santa Maria, Ca. a little after 1am on Thursday morning. I am sure my husband would have preferred going down to LA the night before and staying in a hotel but of course I couldn’t leave my kitties one extra night. The drive down was okay, I slept most of the way and Rick drove (ha, ha). We got to LAX a little after 4am and it was smooth sailing as we got checked in and waited for the plane. The plane left a little after 6am which put us into Chicago a little after 1pm. Our next flight was not scheduled for takeoff until after 3pm but thanks to an unexpected thunder storm we were delayed about an hour. We finally arrived into Wausau, Wisconsin a little after 5pm. The first thing I noticed was how green everything was and the lack of hills. Once we finally got checked in we grabbed a bite to eat and quickly went to sleep but of course not before I got to relax in my whirlpool jacquize bathtub (Yeah). That’s right if I was going to suffer in this race I was going to have something to relax in.

April 26-27, 2008
24 Hours of Granny Gear
Temecula, California

By Terri Wahlberg:

Friday morning we left town a little after 9am and made really good timing by getting into Temecula a little after 2pm. Once we found our pit area it was time for me to go out and do a pre-ride. The bad thing was it was over 90 degrees and the pit next to us informed me there was a hive of bees and lots of snakes. Anyone who knows me can testify I do not do well with snakes. So as I headed out on the course I kept my open. At first I thought they were joking about the bees but sure enough about mile 3 there was a sign that said “Beware of Bees.” It looked like someone had poured honey on the ground because it was covered with tons of them. I ended up just going around them even though they were right on the trail. After a pretty easy ride it was off for dinner and hopefully a good night’s sleep.

February 16-17, 2008
24 Hours of Old Pueblo
Tucson, Azonia

By Terri Wahlberg:

The endurance race season for 2008 has finally begun. Rick and I started our trip for the Old Pueblo race on Wednesday by driving from Santa Maria, Ca. all the way to Scottsdale, AZ. After a 10 hour drive we finally made it around 9pm. The next day I was able to ride McDowell Mtn. in Scottsdale. It felt really good to get on the bike and get used to the cactus. In California it doesn’t matter if you clip a bush but in Arizona that bush is cactus and it doesn’t feel too good. After my ride we just hung out with family and watched the rain start to come down. On Friday we got up early and headed for Tucson. The forecast showed only slight showers so I was a little bummed that it rained the whole drive to Tucson. When we got into Tucson I was still planning on pre-riding but then we noticed it was snowing. Yes I did say SNOW.

12 Hours of Temecula #1
Temecula, California

By Terri Wahlberg:

I can’t believe that the 2008 endurance race season if finally upon us once again. The weekend of January 26th was the kick off for the season. It would be a chance to see where my fitness level was as well as my competitors. With only three weeks into my new training program with my coach I was very nervous. I knew my level was not even close to peak performance, but I knew this was not the race to be peaked at.
